Green continues to be an ongoing initiative at Sherwin-Williams. We’ve got the latest information regarding environmentally preferred solutions, so when your clients have questions, you have the answers.

GREENGUARD-certified

Several Sherwin-Williams environmentally responsible products, including the popular Harmony® Interior Latex and Pro Industrial™ lines, have recently received the GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality & GREENGUARD for Children & Schools certification from the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI).

Sherwin-Williams puts a lot of effort into creating environmentally responsible products.

Tested according to the stringent GREENGUARD standards for low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) products, the certified Sherwin-Williams coatings are found to have minimal impact on indoor air quality and the environment.

The GEI is an industry-independent, nonprofit organization that oversees the GREENGUARD Certification Program. As an American National Standards Institute–authorized standards developer, GEI establishes acceptable indoor air standards for indoor products, environments and buildings. Sherwin-Williams voluntarily applied for the GRENGUARD certification, and testing will be administered on an ongoing quarterly and annual basis to ensure continued certification.

“Sherwin-Williams leads the industry in the development of environmentally responsible products through our GreenSure® designation, which takes into consideration product performance and environmental factors,” says Steve Revnew, director of marketing, product development for Sherwin-Williams. “However, it is important to us that we offer products to our customers that are third-party-tested and certified through the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute. These products meet or exceed the most stringent green building specifications.”

New recycled containers

The Sherwin-Williams Harmony and ProGreen® 200 products are now available in a 100 percent recycled container, further improving the product’s environmental performance. The same containers will soon be available for the Duration Home® and Builders Solution® product lines.

New packaging facts

  • Label contains 75 percent recovered fiber and 25 percent post-consumer waste.
  • Label printed with environmentally friendly soy ink.
  • Container is made from 100 percent recycled post-consumer resin.
    • Lessens the impact of extracting, harvesting and manufacturing of virgin materials.
    • Saves materials from entering the waste stream.
  • The containers are manufactured near the manufacturing sites of the paint, reducing transit costs and environmental pollution.
